DESCRIPTION OF A BUILDING PRIOR TO ITS DEMOLITION
Jim Lockey | Text Installation
A disused church stands on Foord Road; empty, decayed and awaiting demolition. As it approaches the end of its existence, Jim Lockey has created a text that describes the building and imagines its history using metaphors based on the building’s decaying features and past religious significance. The description invokes a discussion of history, memory and how architecture operates when separated from useful function. The text, pasted onto the front of the building, will weather and decay long before the building is demolished.
