LAND OF DEEP DARKNESS
Sarah Nielsen | Sound & Sculpture

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. Isaiah 9:2
Land of Deep Darkness is an installation of metallic, mechanical sculptures that have been created as a response to ten lighthouses that were all attended to by former lighthouse keeper, Dave Mapp.
The sculptures will be creature-like and will vary in size and form. They draw inspiration from what walks and grows on the seabed. Each will be given its own voice and utterations as they carry a speaker unit. The recordings for the creatures will be taken around one or several of the ten lighthouses as well as recordings of Dave Mapp recounting his experience as a lighthouse keeper.
