The Art Car Boot Fair is an energised one day event that brings artists together to meet their public face to face and to sell works specially created just for the event directly to them. Established in London in 2004, the event aims to be the day that artists let their hair down, try something new and for visitors to the event to be able to engage with artists and their work in person.
Everyone, whatever their budget, can become a collector for the day with artworks ranging in price from a few quid to a few hundred.
Participation in the Art Car Boot Fair is by invitation only and the organisers see it as a curatorial project as well as a unique market place to both view and collect art. 2014 is the first year that the Art Car Boot Fair is going on the road and after our packed event in London in June, a massively successful as well as thoroughly enjoyable foray north to Liverpool in July we are gearing up for an amazing event during the opening weekend of the Folkestone Triennial with a line-up that includes Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk and Matt Collishaw, street art, found art, performance art, high and low art – and everything In between – all at the Folkestone Fringe Harbour Hub.
The Art Car Boot Fair has been sponsored by Vauxhall Motors since its inception and the relationship has consistently improved and deepened over the years making it possible to make the event completely free for artists to take part in, ensuring a classy line up of vintage motors to join the fray plus this year the first ever permanent car commission from Gavin Turk – an artwork called 'Mummy' launched at the June event in London and visiting all our 'on the road events' .
