Folkestone Moves is an interdisciplinary collaboration between a filmmaker, a choreographer and a sound artist, working with Folkestone residents to produce a multimedia artwork that will see its final installation in Folkestone Harbour in October 2014. The work takes the history of Folkestone’s harbour area, its social spaces and traditional industries as its starting point, weaving these with the present day; examining the gestures and sounds associated with them. The work looks at recent gentrification and how the ongoing development is changing how people move through the town, how they connect to its urban geography and how memories of the town affect their everyday engagement
This exhibition at the Brewery Tap will be an initial presentation of the work as it is prepared for a site-specific installation in the harbour. The exhibition will present an element of the work alongside the research and process that is feeding into its development.
