Canterbury Archaeological Trust

Canterbury Archaeological Trust are pleased to present our collaborative exhibition, ‘A Reflection of the Self: Art and Archaeology of East Wear Bay’.

The exhibition has been conceived using artwork produced by participants and volunteers of our community excavation project. Using finds and material recovered from the excavation site at East Wear Bay, we explore how we can connect with the past through self-reflection and by considering our own experience with the world. Our art workshops, run as part of our archaeological engagement project, have enabled people to respond to objects that held significance to individuals who share the same landscape with us, but who lived in the past.

Art and culture frequently look at the past as an intangible linear concept, but we aim to examine how archaeology can empower us to view shared human experience throughout time as something physical and very present in our everyday lives.

Accessibility: There is a sloped and angled low step into the gallery space. The exhibition is on one level.
