'edge states' is a triptych of performances devised by Sidonie Carey-Green, Josephine Carter and Farida Yesmin. Three works unfold at sunset and sunrise on consecutive days, tracing a path from the Harbour Arm to Sunny Sands. ‘concrete’ evokes crumbling cliffs, where dancers shoulder and shed the weight of permanence. ‘time and tides’ invites participants to contribute clay spirals to Farida Yesmin’s body as she lies with the lugworms at low tide. Linking these two actions, plastic sheeting becomes shared skin in ‘cutaway ii’, stretching across performers’ bodies as they traverse Folkestone’s coastal edges.
cutaway collective represents Farida, Josie, Sidonie, Kate Alexander, Gwen Grynfeld and Rhiana Bonterre, all of whom have contributed creative and organisational labour to the project as performers, co-devisers, documenters and producers. As a group, we are committed to working against hierarchies and across identities to co-create work that resonates for and with our bodies, as they exist.
