International Women's Day 2013

08 - 10 mar 2013
creative quarter, folkestone

Folkestone Fringe Artists & Friends marked International Women's Day (IWD) in Folkestone by bringing women artists, journalists, musicians, and alternative health practitioners together in a weekend programme.

IWD is a worldwide celebration of the economic, political, and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some countries like China, Cambodia, Russia, Vietnam, Uganda, and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday.

The first International Women’s Day (IWD) event was held in 1911, and IWD honours the work of the Suffragettes who campaigned for women's right to vote. As well as celebrating women's success, the day reminds us of inequality between men and women that has still to be redressed.

Supported by Creative Foundation & Roger DeHaan Charitable Trust.
