My ongoing project ‘Meeting Trees’ is taking me all around Britain, meeting heritage trees to draw their portraits. Later, I might make something else inspired by the experience. This is the first outing of the works together, including some new pieces with a local focus.
Between them, the trees tell a sprawling array of events and stories, from historical fact to legends and folklore that have trickled through the generations. Rooted for hundreds (or thousands!) of years, they are living witnesses to our histories, breathing life into our stories and connecting people across the ages.
Kate is an animator and illustrator telling stories through digital and analogue drawing, film and projection installation. Her work brings together observational documentary with subject research, peeling through layers of time, a gentle humour often present. Drawing is integral at the root of her practice, reflecting an interest in traditional crafts and the making process.
