✨This is Your Research Kit

This year, we are inviting everyone taking part in Flint and Clay to be part of a piece of research, to help us all learn more about what's working, where's working and how we might need to work in the future.

#Research #Learning #Evaluation

Over the 6 weeks of the fringe, people will be supported with a research kit to capture people's experiences and observations in response to some key questions.

Our research approach aligns with our programme ethos, and the research tools are designed to work alongside the artistic/participatory activity to gain story-rich, creative insights into what connects us, what divides us and our imagined futures.

"How can the arts strengthen connections, surface or challenge divisions, and cultivate collective imagination of possible futures — and for whom?"

Your observations are crucial. They will show the impact of Flint & Clay, help us understand the role of the arts in Folkestone, and strengthen how we design future programmes.

Research tools in your kit

1. For you - capture your own observations and reflections after your event/each day of activity.

  • Observation sheets: complete 5 if your project lasts 3+ days, or 2 for shorter events. Be specific; notes, quotes, and even sketches are welcome.

  • Conversation prompts: use these to spark chats, and note quotes in your sheets (or use creatively: graffiti wall, sketchbook, audio, etc).

2. For visitors - find out what some of your audience/visitors think.

  • Postcards: quick, easy feedback.

  • Visitor feedback sheets: longer responses (aim to do at least 1 as an interview; you can write for them).

What next?

  • Complete the required number of observation sheets (all 4 pages).

  • Share and collect postcards + feedback sheets. Hand in at the Urban Room or Glassworks reception.

  • Conduct at least 1 interview.

  • Take photos of completed sheets and creative prompt responses (no faces), then either:

    • Upload HERE. Please rename files: YourName.Event.Date.imagenumber.jpg

Thank you!

Submit 5 observation sheets + 1 interview to join us at the Fringe Feast of Learning on Thursday, 6th November. A chance to reflect, celebrate, and shape future programmes together.
